The Malabar Parakeet (Female)
(Psittacula columboides)
Photographing a female Malabar parakeet feeding on the branch of a tree in Nagarhole Tiger Reserve was a fascinating experience. The Malabar parakeet (Psittacula columboides), also known as the blue-winged parakeet, is a striking parrot native to the Western Ghats of southern India. With its dull grey head and body, dark wings contrasted by blue, and a long blue tail tipped in yellow, the female parakeet presented a beautiful subject against the lush green backdrop of the forest. As she delicately picked at the fruit on the branch, her dark beak stood out, highlighting her elegance and grace. The forest was filled with the high-pitched screeching calls of her flock, flying rapidly through the canopy, yet she remained calm and focused on her meal. Capturing this moment through my lens, I felt a deep connection to the vibrant and diverse avian life thriving in Nagarhole.
