Great White Pelican

Imagine the serene atmosphere of Keoladev Bird Sanctuary in February 2022. The air is filled with the sounds of various bird species, creating a symphony of nature. As a wildlife and birding enthusiast and photographer, I with my trusted camera and a telephoto lens was ready to capture the beauty of nature.

As I strolled through the sanctuary, I come across a vast water body, and there, amidst the peaceful surroundings, a majestic Great White Pelican. Its large wingspan and graceful movements were enough to capture anyone’s attention. The water reflected the clear blue sky, providing a perfect backdrop for photographing this beautiful bird which is the largest in the pelican family. It measures 140 to 180 cm (55 to 71 in) in length with a 28.9 to 47.1 cm (11.4 to 18.5 in) enormous bill. The wingspan of this graceful bird measures 226 to 360 cm (7 ft 5 in to 11 ft 10 in).

I carefully approached, trying not to disturb the natural behaviour of the bird. The Great White Pelican seemed unperturbed by anyone around, allowing me to observe its elegant plumage and unique features up close. The sunlight enhances the details of its feathers, creating a striking contrast against the tranquil waters.

I spent a considerable amount of time marvelling at the bird's graceful movements. Every click capturing a moment frozen in time, preserving the essence of this incredible encounter.

The experience is not just about photography; it's about connecting with nature, appreciating the diversity of bird life, and being immersed in the beauty of the sanctuary. As you leave, you carry with you not only a collection of stunning photographs but also memories of a magical day spent in the heart of nature, surrounded by the wonders of Bharatpur's Keoladev Bird Sanctuary.
