This snake bird also held on the flapping fish it had caught for few moments and then tossed it in air to swallow it.
Water birds have long beaks to enable them to catch fishes etc. These beaks are made of cartilage, and do not have muscles in their beaks to enable them to swallow. Therefore, these water birds engulf their catch by tossing it in the air and catching it in their open oral cavity straight into their throats. This snake bird also held on the flapping fish it had caught for few moments and then tossed it in air to swallow it.
This picture was clicked when the darter had tossed the fish and while it was in air.
